Third grade rocks! Third graders paired up with 8th graders to create rocks for their rock unit. They created igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rocks all out of crayons. It was a great hands on experience! Thank you Mr. P for letting your students teach us! Mrs. Saunders

The first graders put on a puppet show! The story was about a pig asleep in a watermelon patch and different animals try to wake her up. Molly was the narrator, Joselyn was the coyote, Payton was the snake, Mason was the mule, Octavio was the pig, Lyzzi was the girl Celina and Ashlin was the rabbit and cricket. All students did a great job giving their characters feeling and movement. They even memorized their lines! Well done, first graders! Last trimester, Traver seventh and eighth graders submitted essays to a competition organized by the Walworth County Genealogical Society. The topic of the essays was ancestors or favorite living relatives. Traver students took first, second, and third places as well as two honorable mentions. We are very proud of them! The first graders created a huge and AWESOME poster/mural featuring six different kinds of dinosaurs. We have read about dinosaurs, so it was fun to enlarge and draw their outlines on this poster. We decided as a group how the layout should look - and that there should be a volcano in the distance! It was wonderful to see and hear the class working together and sharing ideas! The 3rd grade class showed off their modeling skills and knowledge of adjectives during the Adjective Catwalk. Students enjoyed modeling for their classmates and grades 1 and 2. Second graders just learned about QR codes and used them during a math scavenger hunt around the room. Students worked with partners as they searched the room for addition and subtraction facts and answers while scanning QR codes to get the next clue. Grades 4k-4 had a fantastic turnout for the family reading night in October. Parents and students enjoyed reading books at different "reading cafes" while enjoying a tasty treat. Stay tuned for more family fun throughout the 2013-2014 school year! The 5-8 students are learning about the Earth and its spheres in Day 6. They have learned that each sphere: biosphere, atmosphere, lithosphere, and hydrosphere, are all connected and depend on one another. One example to show those connections was an activity that simulated a food web. Mr. P had cards of living things and each student received one. Students had to learn how each things was dependent on others. A looooong piece of yarn was used to connect each of the students in a large web. Then, Mr. P gave scenarios that would destroy one or more of the living things. Students let go of their yarn and we watched the web collapse. Students learned that taking a living thing out of the web, especially the bottom of the food chain, could be devastating. The next Day 6, students did some activities with the lithosphere. They made the layers of the Earth in a sweet way: a Red Hot candy for the core squished into a marshmallow to represent the mantle followed by a dip in some chocolate for the crust. Later, they practiced how seismographs work by making their own "earthquakes". They shook the tables while their partners tried to stay on the "seismograph" paper. Recently, grades 3-5 enjoyed a trip to Old World Wisconsin. The students spent the day learning about the 1800's while participating in activities from that time period. The first graders learn many things about plants and how they grow. They are amazed to watch a bean plant sprout using just water and sunlight! We all watch and measure our bean sprouts. Some of them grow pretty big without any soil! |
