We are excited to show off our new staff members this year! From left to right: Kim Bychowski, Special Education; Sara Schultz, fourth grade; Chris D'Amico, Spanish/Language Arts 6/Social Studies 5; Cami Behrens, Math 5-8/Geography 5. Welcome, ladies!
The 3rd and 4th graders in Mrs. Saunders' math class just wrapped up a fraction unit. Students played fraction games, made flip books, and made fraction pizza.
Traver’s third through eighth graders recently competed in track meets at Badger High School. All participants did a great job and showed great effort and sportsmanship. Parents should be very proud of all students that took part. Many students came in before school to get in some extra running and it really paid off.
There were two students that showed exceptional sportsmanship that should be recognized. Fourth grader Josie was commended by Mr. Lofy for telling each individual in the 200 m. dash “good luck” before the race. During the 800 m. run, William F. stopped twice to check on runners that had fallen to the track. One runner was from Traver and the other runner was from Woods. Great examples of good sportsmanship, Josie and William! There were also many Traver records that were broken this year. 7th grade boys 1600 m. run-Tim 5:42.3 (All School Record) 6th grade girls 1600 m. run-Heidi 7:10.0 (All School Record) 7th grade girls 1600 m. run-Katie Sue 6:59.2 (All School Record) 3rd grade girls Long Jump-Sarah 7’4” 3rd grade girls softball throw- Sarah 56’ 3rd grade girls 200 m. dash-Grace 39.3 3rd grade girls 400 m. dash-Jasmine 1:42.3 3rd grade girls 800 m. run-Emma 3:58 3rd grade girls 400 m. relay-Sarah, Grace, Karyme, Emma 3rd grade girls 800 m. realy-Sarah, Grace, Jasmine, Emma 3rd grade boys long jump-Lex 9’10” 3rd grade boys ball throw-Ethan I. 109’ 3rd grade boys 100 m. dash-Lex 17.2 3rd grade boys 800 m. run-Lex 3:19 3rd grade boys 400 m. run-Lex, Brandon, Ethan, Eric 4th grade girls Long Jump-Lita 10’2” 4th grade girls Ball Throw-Lita 69’ 4th grade 200 m. dash-Josie 35.4 4th grade girls 400 m. dash-Lita 1:33.0 4th grade girls 400 m. relay-Lita, Josie, Jaque, Chloe 1:16.5 4th grade boys Long Jump-Blake 10’3” 4th grade boys 100 m. dash-Andre 16.1 4th grade boys 200 m. dash-Andre 34.64 4th grade boys 800 m. relay-Blake, Andre, Calix, Vincent 2:28.2 Recently our 7th and 8th graders were introduced to some basic yoga stretches and moves by Miss Rauland’s brother. The students had a good time and learned some very interesting things about yoga and the benefits it can have on your body.
What is Yoga? Yoga can be dated back to 400 B.C. and originated in ancient India. It focuses on the physical, mental and spiritual disciplines of the body. Hindu monks brought yoga to the West in the late 19th century, and it became popular as a form of healthy exercise in the 1980’s. Modern yoga as people call it in the Western World, focuses on reducing stress, flexibility, proper blood flow and overall relaxation. Yoga is a lifetime activity and can be done by people of all ages. Check out the pictures! Traver's first grade sent seven students to the regional forensics competition in Walworth. There were five trophies and two blue ribbons awarded!
All students worked so hard - we are very proud of them! Grades 1-4 celebrated Earth Day with numerous activities. Students learned about the three R's (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), made an earth from their hand prints, made bird feeders, and planted grass. All students participated in a nature walk as well.
Traver School and Mr. Zach Janssen are proud to announce that two eighth grade students have earned top scores in the Wisconsin Mathematics Council’s Middle School Math Contest. Zander Zilly’s scores earned him a place in the Class C Individual All-State First Team. Devon Frederick’s scores earned him a place in the Class C Individual All-State Second Team. The written contest was held at Traver on March 4 and the results were sent into the contest organization. Fifteen schools in the state participated. “Class C” is the designation for the schools with 300 or less students. Congratulations, Zander and Devon! The third graders had a small recorder recital recently. The fifth and seventh graders showed off their guitar knowledge in recitals recently as well. All performed very well!
Early in April, students in first through fifth grade do forensics presentations. This teaches them the art of presenting a subject, demonstating something or interpreting a story in front of an audience. The students work hard on this and it's always a fun competition!
