Hi!  My name is Melissa Flies.  I am the new district Speech-Language Pathologist.  I live in Walworth with my husband, three children, and two dogs. I love traveling, watching my kids play sports, gardening, and reading.

My passion for the field of speech-language pathology started in high school. I was mesmerized by the sign language interpreters signing for the various bands at our local street festival, The Decatur Celebration. Inspired, I took a sign language class in high school. Around the same time, sadly, my grandmother suffered a severe stroke.   Watching therapists work with her to recover her skills solidified my desire to pursue a degree in this field. I spent the first 19 years working primarily in hospitals and nursing homes. After moving to Wisconsin, I added schools to my resume and have enjoyed this ‘area’ of speech-language pathology part-time and “as needed” for the past 6 ½ years.

I graduated from Elmhurst College in 1999 with a Bachelor's Degree in Communication Disorders and Spanish. In 2001, I attained my Master's Degree in Communication Disorders from the University of Central Missouri.

I have been fortunate to serve various patients/clients/students from birth to the end of life. I am truly blessed to have a career that I love. Speech, language, and swallowing skills are integral to maintaining a good quality of life, and I consider it a privilege to work with those needing my services.
