Traver School's History

Traver School began as a one-room schoolhouse in the late 1830's--1837 is the first date that we have on record.  It became a school district in 1844.

We are proud of our school!  It is a such a gift that it has been here for so long.  If we use the date of 1844 when we became an official district, that means that we are 179 years old!  We are proud that we come from a long line of hard-working folks who believe in our school and district.  We have been supported by our community through all the iterations of our building and of our students and staff.  We hope to always serve our community by educating our fantastic young people.

There is a lot more history to add.  We think we have an accurate history, but we know there may be folks around here who know more.  We welcome any pictures or documents you may have to help us with historical data!  We will work on this page and keep updating it.

This is the first photograph that we have on file.  This is the original one-room schoolhouse which was moved offsite to become a home.

We know that it's all from the Traver family and there is more history we found to share that we will include at a later date.

This is the same schoolhouse circa 1920.  There has been an addition to the back of the building and also a basement was dug underneath the building to add to the learning space.

This is the school circa 1960.  The old schoolhouse still stands and more building was built on.

The most recent iteration of the front of the building circa 2002.  The school underwent a large-scale renovation and addition of a gymnasium and 3 more classrooms in rear of the building in 2001-2002.

In 2006, 4 classrooms were added to the rear of the building, behind the gymnasium addition from 2001-2002.
The building has kept the same footprint since 2006.
