Fifth Through Eighth Grade
|
_Beginning in fifth grade, students move to different teachers and classrooms. Our fifth through eighth graders make up our middle school level.
Our average class size is 12 students. Our students work in a six-day schedule to allow more flexibility and educational opportunities. Class times are also flexible. Morning academic classes meet for 63 minutes each and afternoon academic classes meet for 43 minutes each. Each day 6 of the middle school schedule has a dedicated morning of project-based, multi-level learning. Students are given choices of sessions they may attend to learn more about the theme of the day. Students are mixed by interest and ability level. Students work collaboratively on projects and presentations to demonstrate their understanding. Students carry school-issued laptops to each class and take them home. (Please learn more on the Technology page.) Traver is proud to offer dedicated time that students are able to read for pleasure everyday. Our time is called "D.E.A.R." : Drop Everything And Read. Our students participate in field trips around the community. Classes welcome visitors to speak about their experiences to extend and enhance regular class time as well. |
Beyond the core subjects, students take part in our physical education program every other day with Mr. Nottestad. Students enjoy music with Mrs. Kolmos and art with Miss Magnuson for a semester each year.
Students attend Spanish class. Fifth and sixth graders have Spanish 3 days a cycle and seventh and eighth graders have Spanish everyday. Our Library/Media Specialist, helps students learn about technology. Fifth and sixth graders have tech 3 days a cycle all year and seventh and eighth graders have tech one semester each year. |
