Board Approved Open Enrollment Space Determinations for 2023-24
The board elected to have no enrollment cap in regular education any grade (4K-8) for the 2023-2024 school year.
Siblings in regular education of currently-attending open enrolled students will apply for open enrollment and will be automatically approved for open enrollment.
Special education:
- There is limited capacity for new special education students, regardless of enrollment caps, due to staffing limitations.
- The IEP of the prospective special education student must be reviewed to determine services and amount of time for services before determining open enrollment approval.
- If it is determined that services can be provided, the student will be approved for open enrollment.
- If it is determined that services cannot be provided, the student will be denied open enrollment.
- Prospective families who have a child in special education shall provide the most current IEP to the Linn J4 School District as soon as possible to be able to determine open enrollment approval. This is especially important for alternative applications that are close to the start of school or if school is already in session. Children in special education cannot be approved for open enrollment before the district reviews the IEP and can ensure that the child will be able to receive specialized education.
- If a family has more than one child, the child in regular education may be approved for open enrollment while the child in special education may be denied due to the above criteria.
