The students take turns being the shopkeeper. The students start by purchasing one item. The shopkeeper needs to figure out if he or she owes them some change. Then each student must purchase two items. After adding up the total, the student needs to gather enough money to buy the items. Again, the shopkeeper might owe them some change. Addition, subtraction AND regrouping all come into play!
First graders enjoy learning how to count money. Creating a "school store" makes it almost like real life!

The fifth grade took their first skiing lessons at Grand Geneva in February. Most had never skied before so Mrs. Mott took a video of their first time down the learner hill.
Recently fifth graders did projects about the different places colonists lived during the early 1700s...they all chose to share their information about the New England, middle and southern colonies as game show or talk show formats. This made learning about our American history fun for everyone. To celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday grades 1-4 had a special morning to honor him. They made Thing 1 and 2, they wrote stories, listened to stories read by Tim Tebow and Justin Bieber, and made Oobleck. In math class, they did a graphing assignment with colored goldfish. |
