Traver Track

5/22/2013

Traver’s third through eighth graders recently competed in track meets at Badger High School.  All participants did a great job and showed great effort and sportsmanship.  Parents should be very proud of all students that took part.  Many students came in before school to get in some extra running and it really paid off.

There were two students that showed exceptional sportsmanship that should be recognized.  Fourth grader Josie was commended by Mr. Lofy for telling each individual in the 200 m. dash “good luck” before the race.  During the 800 m. run, William F. stopped twice to check on runners that had fallen to the track.  One runner was from Traver and the other runner was from Woods.  Great examples of good sportsmanship, Josie and William!

There were also many Traver records that were broken this year.

Yoga Day and Some Fun Facts

5/22/2013

Recently our 7th and 8th graders were introduced to some basic yoga stretches and moves by Miss Rauland’s brother.  The students had a good time and learned some very interesting things about yoga and the benefits it can have on your body.

What is Yoga?

Yoga can be dated back to 400 B.C. and originated in ancient India.  It focuses on the physical, mental and spiritual disciplines of the body.  Hindu monks brought yoga to the West in the late 19th century, and it became popular as a form of healthy exercise in the 1980’s.

Modern yoga as people call it in the Western World, focuses on reducing stress, flexibility, proper blood flow and overall relaxation.  Yoga is a lifetime activity and can be done by people of all ages.
