Students in fourth grade are beginning a unit on electricity. The unit started with a lesson and experiment on static electricity. Students learned that static electricity consists of electrons or ions that do not move, and an object becomes electrically charged if it gains or loses electrons. Then, we did some experiments with balloons and our hair. Students had a great time and got to see what happens when they transfer electrons from one surface to another.
